Today, much of what we hear about the Middle East and Africa is bad news. Thus, at first glance it would be easy to dismiss the region as a viable property investment location. However, investors who dismiss the region could be missing a huge opportunity.
As a region the Middle East and Africa is as diverse as it is complex. There are, of course, impoverished nations in the Sub-Sahara and areas of instability such as Iraq, but there are also numerous developing nations which provide a range of exciting opportunities to first time and experienced investors alike.
Typically, investors will focus almost exclusively on Dubai and South Africa. Whilst these two locations do offer great opportunities, they are not alone in this. Other opportunities include beach houses in Bahrain or Ghana, a traditional city house in Marrakech or a luxury apartment in The Lebanon.
Lebanon, Bahrain and particularly Dubai (UAE) posses all of the fundamentals to make great property investments. They are increasingly developed nations, both in terms of economics and infrastructure. They are also seen as pillars of stability which attract many individuals from across the region and beyond.
This local demand when combined with the limited size of the cities and increasing international demand, points towards strong upward pressure on property prices.
Within the African continent, the emergence of stability and democracy in the more progressive nations along with an increase in tourism, particularly eco tourism and safaris, means that there is an ever increasing opportunity for attractive investment.
More and more investors are beginning to see beyond the confined instabilities of some countries across Africa and the Middle East and are increasingly looking to profit from the array of investment opportunities that present themselves in the region. Many astute investors now ask less about the risks of investing in the region than they do the risks of not taking the opportunity.
