Geography
Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean Sea.
Situated south of Turkey and to the west of Syria, Cyprus is
divided into two parts, the North and the South. The North part of
the island is Turkish and the south side is Greek and both parts
are separated by the green line. The Cypriot culture has been
influenced significantly by countries such as Europe, North Africa
and western Asia making it very diverse. The country has many
monuments, castles and sites to visit. With a mass of mountains
Cyprus is also an ideal location for skiing or snow boarding.
Government
The Republic of Cyprus is an independent republic with a
presidential system of government. The President of the republic is
elected by the public for a five year term, and as President
controls the executive power. The President applies his
executive power through a council of ministers who he appoints
himself. Dimitris Christofias is currently running as
President in Cyprus.
Language
As the island is split by the green line there are two official
languages; Turkish in the north and Greek in the south. A minority
of the population speak English especially in tourist
areas. In other parts Arabic is spoken.
Electricity
240 volts AC, 50Hz. Square 13-amp three-pin plugs (UK-type) are
used.
Passports/Visa
All nationals need to produce a passport which is valid for at
least three months beyond the length of stay in the country, except
nationals who are members of the EU and are holding a valid ID
card.
Visas
No visas are required from any national. Australian, USA and
Canadian nationals have to have a return ticket out of the
country.

Larnaca International Airport
(LCA)
- Location: The airport is located 5km (3 miles)
from Larnaca.
- Time: GMT+ 2 (GMT + 3 from last Sunday in
March to last Sunday in October)
- Contacts: (024) 816 130.
- Transfer between terminals: Everything is
situated in one terminal.
- Transfer to the city: Taxi hire is the most
common form of transport from the airport to the city.
- Car rental: Car rental companies include
Argus, Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, National Astra, Petsas,
Thames, Sixt and Thrifty.
- Facilities: There are banks, bars and
restaurants at the airport. Other facilities include a bureau de
change, left luggage, duty-paid shop, business facilities (fax and
internet), duty-free shops in departure lounges and a post office.
Disabled facilities are available.
- Parking: Car parking is located in front of
the terminal. Parking is charged by the hour; there is no long-term
parking (however, parking is inexpensive).

Standard of Living
With a good economy and low unemployment rates Cyprus enjoys a
high standard of European living. Recent surveys show that Cypriot
towns have one of the lowest costs of living within a developed
nation. Cyprus also has a very low crime rate, almost a sixth of
the European average, making it a safe place to live.

Nicosia the capital of Cyprus has experienced impressive growth
in recent years and continues to do so making it a popular choice
amongst property investors.
