The striking kingdom of Thailand lies at the
very heart of SouthEast Asia and is graced with a terrain both
varied and beautiful. From the mountains and forests of the North,
to the vast rice fields of the Central Plains and idyllic tropical
islands along coastline the Southern peninsula, this is a country
to suit an array of tastes. Misty outcrops shelter verdant valleys
and boast superb khamer monuments dating back to the time of Angkor
Wat whilst traditional hill tribes cluster in centres like Chang
Mai practising their ancient customs and crafts. Further South, off
the east and south coastlines, the numerous picturesque beaches and
off-shore islands draw a continual stream of visitors desperate to
drink in the exotic beauty of the unique setting. Bangkok
meanwhile, one of the biggest cities in the world is flecked with
colour, culture and glistening temples; Buddist labours of love and
fascinating spectacles for Western tourists. The common haunt of
backpackers and discerning tourists alike, Thailand is now the most
popular of all Asian tourist destinations.
With good schools, an efficient health care
system and generally very friendly locals, Thailand has universal
appeal amid the overseas property community. Although badly hit by
the Asian Crisis, Thailand’s economy is steadily recovering
supported by a growing housing and tourism market. Indeed there is
a now symbiosis between tourist and real estate economies which
should allow mutual growth at unprecedented levels. Further, if the
proposed application for a common visa amongst Southeast Asian
countries is approved, access between 10 members of the Association
of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) will be facilitated and tourist
levels likely to be bolstered.
