Geography
Guam is situated within the Mariana chain of islands and is
currently the biggest island in Micronesia. Guam is particularly
popular for its natural beauty with several inactive volcanoes,
hills, streams and waterfalls occupying much of the island. Guam
also has a range of beautiful beaches along the coastline which
attract a lot of tourists, with the western coastline containing
some of the most sheltered beaches. The northern part of the island
is less mountainous than the south and is therefore much more
populated. It is home to some of the most popular tourist
attractions.
Government
The Chief of State of Guam is President George W. Bush and the
Head of Government is Governor Felix P. Camacho. Guam only has two
political parties, The Democratic Party which is lead by Michael
Phillips and The Republican party which is lead by Philip J Flores.
The country's national holiday is Discovery Day which is celebrated
on the first Monday in March. The legal system is based on
that of the US which means that US federal laws also apply in
Guam.
Language
English and Chamorro are the official languages in Guam,
although Japanese is widely spoken throughout the country
especially by the elder generations who lived through times when
the Japanese occupied a large part of the country.

Passports/Visa
Passports are required by all national except those from the US
who hold proof of citizenship and a valid photograph ID.
Visas
Nationals of Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland,
France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal,
Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the UK may travel to Guam without a
visa for stays of up to 90 days.
Nationals of Australia and the UK may travel to Guam visa free
for 15 days for business, tourist or transit purposes only.
Canadian nationals are under the same restrictions travelling to
Guam as they are travelling to the US.
Nationals of Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece,
Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania and Slovak
Republic need to check with USA restrictions for visa
requirements.

Guam International Airport (GUM)
- Location: The airport is located 3 miles east
of the capital, Agana.

- Transfer between terminals: There is only one
terminal.
- Transfer to the city: Most hotels provide a
free shuttle to and from the airport, and there are several taxis
available at the airport.
- Car rental: Car rental is available from Avis,
Budget, Hertz, National and Nissan. Car rental desks are located in
the Arrivals area.
- Facilities: The airport contains a Bureau de
change, ATMs, an international food hall and a wide selection of
duty free shopping. A lost luggage desk is also available.

Standard of Living
The standard of living in Guam has gradually developed. Due to
ever-increasing numbers of tourists over the past 20 years the
country has seen a construction boom with many towns and villages
being developed. The standard of living has therefore risen over
the past few years and continues to do so.
Principal commercial centres and towns
Although Hagåtña is the capital of Guam, Dededo is the most
populous.
