Geography
St. Kitts is officially known as St. Christopher and is situated
in the eastern part of the Caribbean. In the southern part of the
island there are several spectacular white beaches with pearl blue
waters. The island is made up of three groups of rugged volcano
peaks. Covered with several sugar cane plantations and rain forests
the island has many exotic fruits on offer such papayas, mangos,
avocados and bananas. The island of Nevis, the twin federation
island, is two miles and a short ferry crossing away from St.
Kitts.
Government
St. Kitts is an independent Commonwealth Realm and Queen
Elizabeth the second is the head of state. The governor General
acts on the advice of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet. St. Kitts
and Nevis have a national assembly of fourteen members. All the
members serve for five year terms. Both the Prime minister and the
Cabinet are responsible to the parliament. The islands of St. Kitts
and Nevis are full members and acting members of the Caribbean
community (CARICOM) and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean
states (OECS).
Language
English is the official language on the island but the locals
speak it with a slight dialect.

230 volts AC, 60Hz (117 volts available in some hotels).

Passports
All nationals have to have a passport which is valid for at
least six months after the return date except nationals of Canada
and the USA who only have to have a valid photo ID. As of January
2008 anyone entering the island by sea will also have to have a
valid passport or proof of ID.
Visas
Nationals of most countries do not require a visa to enter St.
Kitts or St. Nevis for stays of up to three month except nationals
of Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland,
Portugal and Slovak republic who do need a visa unless they are
continuing their journey to another country within twenty four
hours.

Standard of Living
Since the recovery of the economy on the island the standard of
living has improved. Although some of the most touristy places can
be expensive, living on the island is generally relatively cheap, a
lot cheaper than some European countries.
Principal commercial centres and towns
Basseterre is the capital of St. Kitts and the main
commercialized centre on the island.
