Geography
St. Lucia is a volcanic island and the most mountainous out of
all the Caribbean islands, with the volcanic peaks of Piton and
Petit Piton rising out of the sea on the west coast of the island.
Situated midway along the Caribbean chain of islands St. Lucia is
nestled between the island of Martinique and St. Vincent. The
island has a wide variety of exotic plants, animal life and
rainforests. The west coast is most commonly known as the most
popular tourist destination on the island partly because of the
beautiful beaches and warm Caribbean Sea.
Government
The government is a constitutional monarchy with the Prime
Minister Stephenson King as the head of government and Queen
Elizabeth the second as the head of state.
Language
English is the official language of St. Lucia but a
dialect with French and African influences is frequently
spoken.

Passports/Visa
Passports
Valid passports are required from British, Australian and EU
nationals. The USA and Canadian nationals are required to have
either a valid passport or a valid proof of identity such as a
national ID card with a return or onward ticket for a maximum stay
of six months.
Visas
All British, Australian, Canadian and USA nationals do not
require a visa to enter St. Lucia. Nationals of Czech Republic,
Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania and Slovak Republic do require
a visa unless they are continuing their journey to another
destination and are not leaving the airport.
Visas cost £35-£40 depending on the type of trip.

Airports and Airlines
Hewanorra International Airport

- Location: The airport is situated near Vieux
Fort, about 40 miles (64 km) from Castries.
- Time: GMT -4
- Contacts: Tel: + 1758 454 6355.
- Transfer to the city: There are air shuttles
available to many destinations around the island. Helicopters are
also available on request. Taxis are available from outside the
terminal, running to Castries and various locations towards the
north of the island. Public transport is very good and buses stop
on the road just outside the airport.
- Car rental: Car rental companies which include
Avis, Budget, Hertz and Thrifty are available at the airport.
- Facilities: The airport only has one terminal.
The facilities include; waiting and arrival areas, shopping,
banking and passenger services.

Standard of Living
St. Lucia enjoys a comfortable standard of living where the
local people are friendly and the facilities are already modernised
for a pleasurable lifestyle. The island has good medical
facilities, an excellent legal and educational system and social
services which are available to both local citizens and tourists.
The citizens of St. Lucia welcome foreign investment and in time
this will further increase the standard of living on the
island.
Principal commercial centres and towns
The island of St. Lucia is not very big so has few commercial
towns, the main being the capital city, Castries.
