Geography
Slovenia is situated in southern Europe bordering Austria,
Hungary, Croatia and the Adriatic Sea coastline where one of the
countries main shipping ports is situated. Located between the Alps
and the Mediterranean, Slovenia is covered with several mountains
and rivers making it the third most forested country in Europe.
Despite the size of the country it controls some of Europe's main
transit routes. Ljubljana is the country's capital and found in a
central location with around a two hour drive to each state
borderline of the country.
Government
Slovenia is a parliamentary democratic republic. Parliamentary
elections take place every four years. The government consists of
an elected president, Danilo Turk, who is aided by a council of
ministers and a Prime minister who is currently Janez Jansa. The
country is divided into 136 municipalities and 11 urban
municipalities. The current legal system is based on the civil law
system.
Language
With 91.9% of the population speaking Slovenian it is the
country's official language. A small minority of the population
(app. 4.5%) speak Serbo-Croatian. English is the nation's second
spoken language with many Slovenes also speaking Hungarian and
German.

Passports/Visa
British, Australian, USA and Canadian nationals have to have a
passport which is valid for at least three months after the
intended length of stay. EU citizens have to have a valid national
ID card to prove their EU nationality and identity.
Visas
All nationals are not required to obtain a visa to enter the
country for a stay of up to three months.

- Terminals: 1. A new passenger terminal is
planned that will connect to Terminal 1. Construction is due to
begin in 2008.
- Transfer to the city: There are several bus
connections between the airport and Ljubljana and Kranj and there
is also a private direct bus to Ljublijana. There is a taxi rank
outside the airport that links with flight arrivals.
- Car rental: Car rental companies include
Budget, Europcar, Hertz and several others.
- Facilities: The airport offers several
restaurants, bars and cafes to get food and drink. There are
several shops from newsagents to souvenir shops, a lost and found
luggage and personal belonging counter and baby changing and
medical facilities.
- Parking: A large multi-storey car park is
available along with disabled parking.
Standard of Living
Slovenia is one of the Yugoslav republics and has recently been
claimed as having the region's highest standard of living. This is
mainly due to the country having economic stability and
westernising its outlook to encourage more tourists to visit. This
in turn, automatically means spending more money within the
country.
Principal commercial centres and towns
Slovenia is a very small country but is an important industrial
centre.
