Even Hollywood’s after a piece of the action as UK property hailed as leading investment asset class

I’ve always believed strongly in the value of UK property as an investment asset class. The UK property sector is a dynamic and exciting industry in which to be involved and I’ve been pleased to present a number of high-yielding UK opportunities to Property Frontiers’ clients over the years.

Backing from the banks

It was gratifying, therefore, to read the insights in the latest Private Banking Investor Sentiment Index from Lloyds Bank, which identified the strongest investor sentiment as being towards UK asset classes and in particular towards UK property.

In the year to March 2014, investor sentiment towards UK property saw an increase from 9% to 59% – an impressive rise in just a single year. Sentiment towards UK shares has also risen, increasing from 16% in March 2013 to 41% a year later. Interestingly, this was against a backdrop of sentiment towards wider Eurozone shares of -14%.

An early pioneer

Both myself and Property Frontiers have been active in the UK property market for many years and although we have built a strong brand for pioneering new markets, right now, I genuinely believe the macro economic conditions (help to buy, interest rates, inflation, demand) is creating a great opportunity closer to home for strong yields and good prospects for capital appreciation (in the right location!). We understand what it is that works when it comes to high-yielding property investment in the UK.

Buy-to-let is the investment of choice so far as the current market is concerned. This asset class made headlines at the leading MIPIM international real estate show earlier this month, with the massive growth of the UK’s private rented sector driving the strength of this market. I’ve rarely seen so much excitement about an asset class and it is fantastic that Property Frontiers is at the very forefront of the market.

International reach

It’s not just buyers from within the UK that are keen to be a part of this thriving sector. Overseas investors are increasingly looking to pick up British buy-to-let properties thanks to their high yields and capital growth potential – and it seems that even US film makers now want a piece of the action: the UK is reported as having overtaken California as their destination of choice.

With British-made Gravity cleaning up at Oscars, competition for UK studio space has rarely been fiercer – and the same can be said for prime residential accommodation in leading cities such as Birmingham, Liverpool and Bradford – the world’s first UNESCO City of Film. High-end properties in these cities are extremely sought after, with both existing and new buy-to-let landlords attracted by the impressive returns available.
