London, Manchester and Birmingham highlighted as UK tops the global league of advanced economies
January 9, 2015Article by Ray Withers
Working in the UK property sector, the potential of our cities is so clear to me. Packed with young professionals who are hungry to earn money and to spend it on high end rental accommodation, the UK is lucky to have world-class cities spread up and down the country. Now, the new Global Investor Sentiment Report 2015 from Colliers International has highlighted the UK’s credentials as a world-class investment destination.
The Colliers report puts the UK at the top of the league of advanced economies due to its return to long-term trend growth, which stands at 3% per annum. The US, Germany and Japan have all been trumped by the UK, with the result that overseas investors are queuing up to be part of the property market here.
A tale of three cities
Domestic demand for UK investment properties is also strong. The Colliers report showed that out of all the cities on the planet, the top three targeted by UK investors are London (68%), Manchester (28%) and Birmingham (20%).
It makes me feel proud of the team here at Property Frontiers to read this and know that we already have some great investment opportunities available in all three of these locations. Our units in the stunning Rise @ Deptford development are almost fully sold – testament to the strength of demand in London. For investors who miss out on those, we have some superb apartments in Harrow on the Hill, which is rapidly turning into London’s hottest urban village, available from just £210,000.
In Manchester, we’ve just launched the fabulous Custom Quay opportunity in Salford Quays, where waterfront living is setting new standards in accommodation for the city. With huge glass feature panes flooding the apartments with light and 360 degree views over the water and Old Trafford from the communal roof terrace, I’m anticipating these 60 properties to sell out extremely fast.
In Birmingham, which will always be close to my heart as I grew up nearby, we have again almost sold out of apartments. The 1 Hagley Road development, just minutes from the city centre, are available from just £104,500, with an impressive guaranteed 7% rental return for one year.
From paper to practice
Property Frontiers’ experience over the past year certainly supports the findings of the Colliers report. All three of the UK cities highlighted for their investment potential have thriving business environments, with soaring demand from young professionals for well-located city centre properties. The UK is an exciting market to be part of and Property Frontiers is at the very heart of it. 2015 is going to be a fascinating year.
