Planning approval granted and redevelopment of Central House gets underway
February 15, 2013Article by Ray Withers
It’s been only a few months since the launch of our latest UK student accommodation investment opportunity, Central House in Glasgow and I’m not only delighted to report that over 75% of rooms have been sold but full planning approval has now been granted and the redevelopment of the commercial office space into high calibre studios is very much underway.
The developer and their contractor, Redpath Construction are on site and they have already commenced the work in readiness for completion for the new academic year.
In addition to this progress, with full planning approval now granted by the Glasgow planning department, a stunning new Mezzanine floor where a fully equipped gym and laundry room will be located is being added further enhancing the attractiveness of this development for national and international students in the city.
Indeed according to the latest statistics released by UCAS, the number of applications to Scottish Universities are up 7.1% for 2013 with EU applicants increasing by 4.9% and non-EU up almost 10%. These positive figures, even in the face of rising tuition fees, demonstrate just how great the demand for university places in UK cities such as Glasgow is and why Central House is ideally positioned to help meet the existing shortfall of nearly 43,000 student beds in this prime university city.
