From wood goats to Worcestershire, the impact of Chinese New Year is felt around the world
February 16, 2015Article by Ray Withers
With the world gearing up for Chinese New Year on Thursday, it is easy to focus on the celebrations and miss the deeper meaning beneath them. Being of Asian descent myself, Chinese New Year is a time that I pause and reflect on the year that has passed and consider that ahead and, if the astrologists are to be believed, it is good to see that we’re in for a positive 2015.
Many astrologists conclude that the chaos of the past few years is finally coming to an end. Political and economic situations in the world are starting to stabilize, quality of life is getting better and the crisis that has been tormenting many is finally promising to be over. The outlook for 2015 is bright!
Asian appetite for the UK
I was fortunate enough to visit Hong Kong last year in order to build Property Frontiers’ partnerships with new and existing investors there. It was a busy trip and one that served to emphasise the appetite that Asian buyers have for UK investment, particularly buy-to-let property investment. Cities like Manchester and Liverpool have seen a flurry of investment from Asian property buyers, while areas of London like Harrow have also benefitted.
It’s interesting to see it from the other perspective too and enjoy the UK’s appetite for Chinese New Year. In Liverpool this year, for example, crowds of some 15,000 people are expected to turn out to enjoy the dragons and lions dancing through the street, with markets and firecracker displays providing entertainment for the whole family. Similar events are planned up and down the country.
From wood goats to Worcestershire
From a business point of view, the positivity around 2015, the year of the wood goat, is excellent news and well deserved given the rising property prices and rents in many areas of the UK.
My own tip for 2015 has to be the city at the heart of England, Worcester, and I’m certainly not alone in seeing its potential, judging by how quickly the apartments that Property Frontiers has just launched there are selling. From Asian buyers to domestic investors, appreciation for Worcester’s potential is spread far and wide!
