Brazil hailed world’s top tourist destination for 2014
November 4, 2013Article by Ray Withers
Brazil’s stunning scenery, pristine beaches and lively cities are known for attracting tourists in their droves. The figures show that the Latin American country’s attractions are increasing annual visitors. A record of 5.4 million international visitors was reached in 2011, along with US$6.775 billion in receipts, according to the Brazilian tourism ministry.
Now, the intrepid travel gurus at Lonely Planet have crowned Brazil as their top tourist destination in their Best in Travel 2014 report. The reason is that as well as its beautiful mountains, rainforests and sun-drenched coastline, next year will see Brazil hosting the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The World Cup is one of two prestigious sporting events to be held in Brazil over the coming years – the 2016 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games will also take place there.
Building up the sector
Naturally, with its already-increasing tourism and such high profile events set to attract many more visitors, Brazil’s hospitality sector is on the up. The World Cup host cities are seeing hotel development increase at a fast pace, creating some exciting opportunities for investors looking to benefit from Brazil’s new position as one of the top sporting and tourism destinations in the coming years.
The city of Natal in North Eastern Brazil is an excellent example. Already offering beautiful beaches and adventure outings such as dune buggy rides, it can now boast of being a host city, with the 42,000 capacity Estadio das Dunas due for completion by the end of this year.
The construction of a new 4* hotel operated by a global brand and soon to be available for investment to Property Frontiers’ clients, demonstrates the kind of opportunities that the planned sporting events in Brazil are currently creating.
With luxury suites affording Atlantic Sea views on offer and completion due for early 2016, this new hotel will be a leading, luxury accommodation option for those visiting Brazil for the 2016 Summer Olympics – an event which the Brazilian Tourism Board has predicted will generate US$10.9 billion for the 12 cities due to host the games.
