British Airways has further strengthened its commitment to Latin America by doubling its weekly flight frequency from London Heathrow to Rio de Janeiro it has been announced.
Six direct flights per week will be operated instead of three, departingfrom London Heathrow to Rio de Janeiro daily except for Monday’s.In addition, national flag carrier, BA will continue to operate the flights’ B777 three class service, providing World Traveller (economy), World Traveller Plus (premier economy) and Club World (business class) with a fully flat bed service.
According to a study conducted by Embratur, the Brazilian Tourism board, the number of international tourists visiting Rio de Janeiro increased by 8% in 2010 compared with the previous year, generating over £1.2 billion in revenue for the city.TheRio de Janeiro City Tourism Company, Rio Tur believes tourism levels will further increase this year, seeingas Rio received 131% more international tourists than expected for its Carnival in March.
The increased flight service will provide a greater level of accessibility to Brazil, helping to satisfy strong tourism demand and providing a greater incentive to invest as highlighted by Neil Cottrell, British Airways’ Head of Network Planning who states:
“We are experiencing a real increase in demand for Rio and by doubling the number of frequencies, we are able to offer our customers more choice and greater availability. Brazil is also experiencing strong economic growth and this capacity increase is a great opportunity for British Airways to be part of that growth.”
