PF Meets… David Jacka, Developer of Portofino Ocean’s Edge Resort, Philippines

October 28, 2018Article by Ray Withers

In this issue of PF Meets… we speak with David Jacka, Founder of Oceans 11 Property Development who is responsible for our latest resort investment, Portofino Ocean’s Edge in the Philippines.

What was the vision for Portofino Ocean’s Edge?

The overall design was made by the partnership between Marvin Albert and Sheryl Marinas (M+S Studio). The resort’s layout and design incorporates the culture and natural elements of the location. It will be built and furnished using Asian colours, rich natural materials, fabrics and woods. Authentic Asian art decorates the villas along with furniture and decorative detail such as wrought-iron grills, ceramics, woven fabrics, produced in a number of the country’s 7,100 islands by a team of local designers in collaboration with the in-house Interior Designer, Ms. Elaine Cooper.

What did you pick this particular site on Carabao Island? What makes it so special?

Portofino Ocean’s Edge is located on a cliff 30 metres above a private cove with a 300 metre white sand beach and crystal blue water. This unique location allows a 180-degree unobstructed panoramic ocean views and forest canopy below.

What inspired the villa design?

The villas are inspired by traditional Filipino design with Cogon grass roofs. Positioned at elevations to offer an all-encompassing view of the sea, sunsets and forest canopy, every villa is characterized by elegant lanterns on the terraces and the main door that opens wide to ocean views or the forest canopy.  The furnishings are manufactured locally from natural materials with the interior decorated with local art.

How will they meet the demand of guests visiting the resort?

The centre of attraction of the resort will be the twin-building clubhouse and restaurant with an infinity pool that opens to a cantilevered deck for cocktails and dining (in-door or alfresco). With its own private beach, beach bar, spa, diving and water sports, the resort will appeal to all age groups within a natural peaceful environment. For those who want to enjoy wilder nightlife, the main Boracay attractions are just 15 minutes away.

What features does Portofino Ocean’s Edge include?

This will be a branded resort operated and managed by the Plateno Group under their Portofino brand. The villas enjoy breath taking ocean and sunset views and all have their own private terrace. Internally, there will be premium linens and bedroom accessories, the highest quality furniture and room decor (made by the country’s finest furniture manufacturers). There are also daily speedboat trips to/from Boracay Island for extra adventure!
